Privacy notice

Last updated 28 October 2026

This notice explains what happens to your email address when you sign up for updates about the Belfast History Festival, and what we learn when you visit this website. We collect as little as we can.

Who we are

The data controller is Belfast History Festival Ltd, a company registered in Northern Ireland (company number NI744714). Our registered office is [registered office address to be added].

For anything to do with your data, email contact@belfasthistoryfestival.com.

What we collect

  • Your email address.
  • A record of your consent: the date and time you signed up and confirmed, and the IP address you did it from. Our email service keeps this so we can show that you asked to hear from us.

We don’t ask for your name or anything else.

Why we collect it

To send you news about the Belfast History Festival: the programme launch, events and how to take part. We won’t use your address for anything else, and we will never sell it or share it with other organisations for their own marketing.

Our lawful basis is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). We only add you to the list after you tick the consent box and click the link in our confirmation email.

Who handles it for us

Our mailing list is held by MailerLite, an email service provider that processes your data on our behalf under a data processing agreement. Where MailerLite or its sub-processors handle data outside the UK or European Economic Area, they do so under legal safeguards approved for that purpose, such as standard contractual clauses.

We don’t track whether you open our emails or click the links in them.

How long we keep it

Until you unsubscribe, or until we stop sending festival updates, whichever comes first. If you sign up but never confirm, we delete your address within 30 days.

Your rights

You can:

  • withdraw your consent at any time, using the unsubscribe link in any of our emails or by emailing us;
  • ask for a copy of the data we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct it or delete it;
  • ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our using it;
  • ask for your data in a portable format.

Email contact@belfasthistoryfestival.com and we’ll respond within one month.

Complaints

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or call 0303 123 1113.

Visitor statistics

We count visits to this website with Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service. It doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t identify you. It records which pages were viewed, the site that sent you here, and your browser, device type and country, and we only ever see totals. It doesn’t keep your IP address. If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” signal, nothing is recorded.

We use these totals to see whether people are finding the site. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

Cookies

This website doesn’t use cookies. Your browser contacts two other services: Umami, to count your visit, and MailerLite, only when you submit the sign-up form.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we use your data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant, we’ll email you before it takes effect.
